The Rosebud Diabetes Prevention Program (RSTDPP) received initial funding in 1998 from the U.S. Congress under the Special Diabetes Program for Indian (SDPI) appropriation. Each Federally recognized tribe received funding from the SDPI based on a formula incorporating user population and disease burden figures. Tribes were permitted to design their own programs in an effort to identify intervention and prevention methods that would be culturally specific, effective, and novel. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe design broke new ground among tribes by prioritizing the development of an intervention strategy coupled with risk screening, focused primarily on CHILDREN! Today, SDPI funding has been used to develop: · the RSTDPP wellness center on Soldier Creek road · A staff of fitness specialists · A medical evaluation and multi-disciplinary intervention strategy And, has been busy facilitating both screening and intervention in children, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles among people of all ages at Rosebud. |
