For those with Type 2 Diabetes, exercise should be a part of their daily routine, along with a moderate diet and regular doctor visits. Exercise is one the most effective ways to prevent and control diabetes. “Always looking to get our community out and exercising, we decided to try hosting a triathlon in conjunction with the annual Rosebud fair…” said Commie Brushbreaker, Director. Ten miles on a bike, a 250 yards swim and a 3 miles run were the disciplines included in this first triathlon. The top three participants completing the event were: Steve Her Many Horses (1), Marc Marshall (2), and Crystal Wright (3). The top team finisher consisted of Mik Grimshaw (bike), Traven Covey (swim), and Trevor Covey (Run). Despite the mental pain that all three disciplines create, dozens of participants turned out take part of this first ever event hosted by RSTDPP. Steve Her Many Horses finished the event just under one hour and Marc Marshal finished in second place not to far behind and just over one hour. Eight teams of three athletes each competed in the team division, the top adults teams including Mik Grimshaw, traven and Trevor Covey finish the event in 59:51 minutes. The top youth team to finish what composed by Wayne Little wolf, Richard Big Horse, and Tyler Larvie with a time of 1:06:25. The event was a complete success, “we hope to grow with the years and get our younger generation involved in healthier activities” said brushbreaker.
